What is Consumerism?

If you've ever heard the word consumerism you can most likely assume it has something to do with consuming. Now consuming as we all know is to buy or to take or to eat. But the topic of consumerism is completely different. To some, consumerism may just be shopping or spending money but in reality its a lot worse. American consumerism is a sickness,its a social disease that has infected todays people. We spend hours on end spending money on things we don't need or may not even want. But as we pay for these things at the register we tell ourselves we deserve this, and this will make us happy. Yet it doesn't make us content,as we come back for more and more. Greed spreading through our hearts and what used to be a pleasant activity (shopping) has become an infection, an obsession.
